What do you suggest as a backpacking trip for one person starting at Syracuse, NY?

Money isn't too much of an issue, maybe around 600 bucks or more... Here is some random information to help... Live in Syracuse. Like trains. Not too big about partying. Like historical places. Good architecture (especially Churches and Cathedrals) Beautiful cities. Good food. Museums. Beautiful scenery. What nice places do you recommend? Maybe an route you can suggest?
