Driving Montreal to Syracuse, NY is there an interesting town or site we'd want to spend a night along way?

Prefer to be closer to Syracuse than Montreal. Going in August. (Considering taking a long way and going to Niagra Falls, but that might be too much driving.) Thanks!

  1. Going through Niagra Falls would double your mileage. Duck out that way for a couple of days and then come back through NY if you really want to see it. Syracuse to Hamilton I know, but not north to Montreal. I love the small Vermont towns and cities, not quite on your route though and perhaps not really worth a detour. The Finger Lakes region to the west of Syracuse is one of my favourite parts of the U.S. If you can spend an extra few days, it's a memorable place to visit. I don't recall specifics, but there is so much to see in a relatively small area any motel will do. Some of the grandest waterfalls are significant tourist attractions, while others are tucked away and you can walk for ages and only see a couple people and their dog. :-)
